Palm Blogging
Jul. 29th, 2007 10:15 pmI bought a Palm T|X back in February, as my then current Palm Tungsten E had started to have problems with battery lifespan. The T|X includes wireless, a longer screen & more memory for only a few pounds more than the replacement Tungsten E2.
Due to synchronisation issues I never got around to copying data from one PDA to the other, until just over 2 weeks ago. But now I have, I've been looking for software to install.
Recently I've been looking at the various LJ clients for Palm. My first stop was obviously the LJ Client download page. Unfortunately of the five clients listed only two actually have a link to a live web page. PocketLJ requires AvantGo and doesn't support wireless at the moment. LJ2ME on the other hand requires Java Mobile.
So then I went looking for native clients. I found four alternatives, Mo:Blog and HBlogger are general blogging tools that can be configured for LJ and are both shareware, so being cheap I won't dwell on them The two remaining GNU clients I've found are Handhelj 1.30beta 1, last updated Jan 03 previously known as PalmLJ and available from http://kvance.com/project/handhelj/. This is my preferred client as it is specifically designed for LJ, The other working system is Vagablog 2.0 last updated 8 Jun 05 available from http://www.thisismobility.com/plog/?page_id=7 This was a bit tricky to set-up, but once I found the Blogger API info it was fairly easy and worked fairly well. But it is a general blogging tool and doesn't have the LJ specific abilities of Handhelj. It's a pity neither has been updated in years.
