In my last post I forgot to note I didn't get to Gafilk this year, due to being unemployed. This was actually a good thing as my Dad's cousin's funeral was on the Monday after Gafilk and I wouldn't have been able to go if I were in Atlanta. I particularly wanted to go as his daughter and family were my home from home while I was at Uni in Manchester. I hadn't seen them in years, but they were all recognisable. It was good to see them all, despite the circumstances. So on Tuesday after my latest JSA interview I booked my train ticket to Grantham, having earlier got confirmation of a room share. I needed to do as much job seeking as possible before leaving. Some of which bore fruit as one of the message I got via free wifi at the con was a request for interview on Tuesday, which I confirmed. So I left around 10:00, posted a paper job application! then caught the 10:23 ThamesLink to St Pancras International. When I arrived in London I walked across to King's Cross for the 12:35 to Leeds via Gramtham, I had an assigned seat and if I missed it I'd have to buy a new ticket. No problems and got to Grantham 13:45ish then used my mobile to call for a taxi to the Ramada Hotel, where the filkcon has been for the last few years. I checked in, room was indexed under my sharer, but I was soon settled, I had a snooze then bangers and mash with gravy. Registered, got my badge and then the con officially began.
