Between flights

So my last entry I was back from the US and trying to get over jet lag. Got my glasses nose piece replaces. Though I had to get both replaced later as they were different sizes and they unbalanced.

Back to work on Thursday, caught up on backlog. My manager wondered how I'd coped under the work load (he had to do my job)!

Seannan McGuire is evil, I got a copy of Ashes of Honor waiting for me when I got home, and I stayed up reading to 3:30am! This did not help with my jet lag, so Friday night I went to bed at 7:00pm!

Copied all the data from my old iPod to the new one I'd just bought via iTunes backup on my Windows PC. All went well though the new iPod doesn't seem to remember WiFi SSID login details. All passwords to websites in apps were forgotten too. Also the v6 iOS uses about 2GB of the memory so the usable space is reduced even more. 16Gig is now required...

Last Wednesday was my niece L's, 21st birthday and due to her hectic lifestyle the only day free for her party was her birthday. So I had to go to her house straight from work, go to Reina's in Horsham for drinks and nibbles. After a couple of hours my Dad had had enough, so Mum and I took him home, where I showed Mum my holiday snaps!

In the morning I had to take the bus to work which nearly took an hour and a half, I didn't cost me anything extra but the hour travelling.

I checked out the North terminal at Gatwick Airport on Friday, EasyJet flies from both the North and South Terminal but our flight on Wednesday week goes from the North Terminal. There is a train that will get me there before 6am (the flight leaves at 8am) but I'm not sure where the best place to meet is.

D got a new land-line phone, which has caller display built in. This replaced the 20 year old phone I've been using since I moved in.

Got an email from K that due to health issues she won't be ballroom dancing anymore ;-( However I'll try to carry on on my own (and find a new partner?)

The BBC iPlayer on the iPod is awesome. You can download in the week it's available and watch it any-time in the next 30 days! Just managed to get the BBC documentary "Wartime Farm", and "Shock of the New" before they expired. Unfortunately every hour of TV uses MB of space, so it's the most memory hungry app on my iPod.

This Week

On Monday I went to the Hawth to see Bjorn Again. A great concert dancing in the isles for the second half.

On Tuesday I got a Chiropractic Scan, which indicated my back is in much better shape than I thought.

Wednesday I had to get my glasses adjusted, they had got bent out of shape and I couldn't see properly. D also got me a new phone, since I lost my earlier one. This one is very basic, but does everything I need.

Two Weeks On...

Haven't posted recently as I've been a bit under the weather. I've had a cough, which is only just going away. And I twisted my right ankle / pulled a tendon and that's been painful.

Just after my last post, a signed first edition copy of P N Elrod's
The Devil You Know arrived from the author. It has a misprint on the spine giving the author as P N Elrond

Today is day two of a 2 day tube strike, and as a result I've had a half hour walk to the office, (rather than 10min Tube) and my right heel is feeling the pain!

Two weeks ago we had summer, and the juggling class was able to juggle out side. I tried some passing, but even a light breeze caused club drift and I was coughing too much to keep going long. Last Tuesday is was too unsettled so we were back inside, and as I was feeling better I was able to to get into passing.

I've been trying the web connection of my phone (50p a day) and have now downloaded Opera Mini, which is a lot easier to use than the built in one, it even allows bookmark syncronisation with my desktop browser.

The kitchen is now finished, except for the two wall cupboards, which are due to arrive this week. I've also had a new dual eco electric meter so I get lower cost energy in the evenings and weekends.

Last Saturday, due in part to my ankle issue I got a half hour deep tissue massage, and I've another one next Saturday. It does seem to have helped

And more stuff happens

So including the time jugging on Tuesday (where I got a club in the face that bent my glasses, both glasses and face are fine). I didn't get home on time any day last week.

On Wednesday I went to the Prince Charles Cinema" Leicester Square. Which shows films after original release, usually stuff that doesn't get wide distribution, and a cheap prices. I actually had a fee pass from a while back that I hadn't use so got to see "FAQ about time travel" A HBO/BBC co-production, not action packed but when it's shown on BBC I'll watch again.

On Thursday I spent lunch and the evening looking for a Boots that sold digital cameras, so I could replace my lost one. It was end of life so wasn't generally available. Eventually found one in a store on Oxford Street. On my perambulations I also go sold a new phone, a Vodafone 533, but kept my old SIM card and number. It has Java and Internet access (though not WiFi). When I got home most of the kitchen cupboards had been removed and tiles had been removed from the floor.

On Friday the VDU/Audio cables arrived, and I made my regular trip to Forbidden Planet. when I got home the ceiling and wall had been painted and wall tiles had been removed. Further plaster had been applied, which needed to dry over the weekend before the next phase starts!

On Saturday morning I went to the library to collect a map of Bedelands Farm, with public footpaths marked. Then to the Chiropractor, apparently I'd got twisted and needed to come back soon for a checkup and review. Had to do some walked so walked from Brighton to Preston park where the Chinese State Circus had it's tent. Since I was early I tried to fly my pocket kite, but due to a lack of wind it wouldn't stay up for long.

I tried to note what acts were on, but I may have missed some, and writing in the dark can get a bit strange! Entered the tent at 2:45 and left at 5:00.

The start was a parade of the full cast giving a potted history of China, with emperor and Monkey King.
Then pole swinging (combining pole acrobatics and trapeze)
plate spinning (5 plate in each hand, while doing acrobatics and contortions!)
Hat juggling (self explanatory)
The Sholin Monks, followed by TNG Monk.
Chinese Lion Dance (traditional)

An Interval of 20min

Started with the Monkey King with a different costume, as we now entered the 21st century.
Bicyclists (8 young ladies manage trick riding on bicycles.)
Monkey returned
Diablo (sycronised, and passing)
Monks return
Ariel silks (two dance in air held up by thin silk)
Hoop diving (traditional)
And finally an Olympic Future.

Sunday rained nearly all day so I didn't get to walk in the woods / fields (though I've got some pain in my right heel, so that might be as well.
