I didn't actually do anything that interesting yesterday, but I did get some useful presents from my younger sister. These were all to replace items in my kitchen that really should have been thrown away some time ago ;)

So I now have a shiny new vegetable rack, on castors; an oven mitt and a large chopping board. My sister was very pleased with me when the old ones went into the bin!

In the post were cards from Susan & Tony (Aunt & Uncle) and James Bryant (traveler extraordinaire). Also a copy of Charlaine Harris' "Definitely Dead" arrived from amazon.co.uk.

After the opening of the presents I watched Mythbusters (on Discovery channel) a repeat of the one with the Mentos and diet cola fountains. Then saw a repeat of the first episode of Bones, then saw a new episode, of The Dresden Files (incubus babies and Claudia Black oh my) and finally watched Painkiller Jane the original pilot movie, downloaded via bittorrent, (not the new one as it doesn't get broadcast til tomorrow in the US).

And then to bed!

Since I didn't go to Eastercon this year I did a lot of reading ;). I also went to Brighton (it's the closest city) to do a bit of shopping.

I managed to find a present for my older sister (2 years my junior) who's birthday is today, and for myself, some books (of course), new trousers, and some scissors (for beard trimming). So all in all time well spent.

When I got back it was to see the second episode of Doctor Who, so far I've managed to watch each episode 3 times, once with commentary (and timing the video and the mp3 file so they are in sync is a real pain).

The other stuff I'm watching at the moment includes Mythbusters, Heroes, The Dresden Files, and Bones. Thank Ghod for Sky+ (the poor man's Tivo).

On the book front, which is always going to be more extensive, since the beginning of April:

Re read, as a Baen eARC, "Lucy's Blade" by John Lamshead, I'll be buying it when it comes out in paperback, really enjoyed an Elizabethan tale from a totally different perspective.

"Command Decision" by Elizabeth Moon, latest in the Vatta's War, the titles of which irritatingly change depending on if it's a US or UK imprint.

"Danse Macabre" by Laurell K Hamilton, and the new comic of the first in this series is really cool.

"Magic Bites" by Ilona Andrews, set in Atlanta, some time in the near future, when magic starts to work again, and the nasty critters come out of the woodwork.

"Break No Bones" by Kathy Reich, I started reading this series because I'd started watching Bones and these were the books it was "based" on. But really it's more inspired by while the main character has the same name and profession as her TV counterpart the rest is differnt, good but different.

"Dante's Girl" by Natash Rhodes, a young woman discovers that monsters exist and romantic expectations are dashed.

The Dead Girls' Dance" by Rachel Cain is the second in the Morganville Vampires series. What would Sunnydale have been like WITHOUT the Slayer?

And finally "Definitely Dead" by Charlaine Harris the latest paperback in the Southern Vampire series,

You know there is a strong vampire / horror theme in this list that I hadn't realised. Only the two Baen books don't have vampires, and Lucy's Blade does have witches and demonic possession.
