Picocon 27
Feb. 27th, 2010 08:55 pmSat 27th
Up early caught 8:34 to Victoria, then District line to South Kensington. Victoria and Circle lines shut.
Got to Imperial College by 10:00 and paid £10 fee. Official opening at 10:20 was followed by a talk (3 things about writing - drive, gumption and luck - needed to get published) by Jaine Fenn.
Following this Amanda Hemingway, who was feeling a bit fragile, read and then talked to the audience for an hour finishing with a poem.
For the first time Picocon had an author signing and sale of new books (at 99p off cover price). I bought 2! Then off to Sandwich World for lunch. This was followed by the annual Destruction of Dodgy Merchandise. The Obi-Wan Kenobi Transformer raised £120!
First in the afternoon Alastair Reynolds on From Barsoom to Pandora. with a Powerpoint slide show.
Then Q&A The Science in Your Fiction. Past guests Julia McKenna and Pat Cadigan joined this years GoHs for discussion.
The final event in the Lecture Theatre was silly games; that is, Just a Minute followed by one round of Mornington Cresent.
Back to the Quad for a test of Newton's 3rd Law - fish fight! Since it was starting to get dark, and I was feeling tired I left at 5:40 and got the 6:17 home.
