Lord of the Rings: The Musical
Mar. 7th, 2008 12:58 pmI took the afternoon off from work yesterday to go to see the LotR production at The Theatre Royal Drury Lane. I arrived just after half past one, and got my balcony seat upgraded to the third row from the front of the stalls!
If you decide to go, get there early as the pre-show started at 1:45pm with a bunch of hobbits attempting to catch fireflies flitting above the audience, they tried various catching devices before succeeding with a very long pole!
Given that the performance was only three hours long (including one interval) the story had to be condensed and abbreviated, but it managed to tell the main storyline successfully.
The special effects were excellent, the Orcs were scary (especially when they ran through the auditorium), the Balrog massive, the Ents were excessively tall, and my favourite the Nazgul on horseback (were actually on stilts).
Golum's performance was particularly impressive.
There followed a half an hour of Q & A and I discovered today there was also one before the performance at 1:15 that I missed.
All in all a very good time
