Busy week

So after being sacked last Tuesday I been busy visiting the Jobcenter, organising my finances and visiting my parents / sister and her family.

On Monday I went to London to collect my remaining stuff from work, I took my middle sized back pack and filled it with this and that. I also visited Forbidden Planet and canceled my regular orders!

Tuesday was my first actual sign on day at the Jobcentre in Haywards Heath, got a meeting to help create a CV (since I haven't had one for 25 years and have no clue if there are any copies anywhere) I also had to buy a new printer, one that worked with Linux, so I checked what was on sale and looked reasonable, then had to go home to look the details up. Since Brother has it's own site with linux drivers I decided to buy a Brother DCP-135C which is a printer/copier/scanner and was on sale at Clarkes Stationers for only £39.99. I also checked with the cartridge refill store and the Brother cartridges were the best value for money. So I bought one from Joy M. (old friend!) and lugged it home on the train.

I then spent hours trying to get it working, without any success, only to discover that I hadn't plugged the USB cable into the printer's internal socket! Once I wired it up correctly both scanning and printing worked perfectly (I did have to install the drivers from the Brother website, but the instructions were fairly clear. It's actually very cool being able to scan and print and print at home.

Wednesday I visited the Citizen Advice Bureau, and was recommended to appeal the decision to sack me, so I have.

And finally I discovered a small leak in the downstairs toilet. I think it's on the inlet pipe, but for the moment newspaper and saucepans are my friends!
